A Thought for Valentine's Day (& Midge Ure...)

Love it or hate it, St Valentine's Day is a celebration in the yearly calendar that is certainly hard to ignore. Amongst all the hearts, flowers and chocolate we found a little romance story of our own...

It's February 14th 1976, can you remember what you were doing? Where you were? Whose name was going to be sealed with a kiss on your Valentine card?

Can you remember the 'sway-along' sound that was coming from the radio that day?
For one glorious week over Valentine's Day the romantic sounds of Slik's  'Forever and Ever' reached Number 1 in the UK charts. Although the band burned out quickly, they left  behind a  "beautiful dark and haunting track with gothic chanting vocals and a
great doo-wop chorus".
We suggest you have a listen, do some reminiscing...

Then why not buy tickets to see the man behind the band, Midge Ure himself, coming to  Airdrie Town Hall, March 24th, 7.30pm. Take a trip down memory lane. Maybe his chart hit, from 37 years ago holds a special place for you, maybe you're still with your partner from all those years ago?

Whatever your reasons, we can guarantee that Midge will put on an excellent show, full of classic hits from melodic Slik numbers to the New Wave rock anthems of Ultravox, plus his outstanding solo material.

Tickets £18 (£17 concession) 01698 403 120 or

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day...

Food for thought

Last week's meeting of our Ambassadors group was the best yet, with some tasty ideas for the future of the Town Hall.

The hot topic of the evening was food and drink.  And it was suggested that the Town Hall could become a one-stop destination for a top night out.

So would you come to the Town Hall for a show and a meal (and  a glass or two of something refreshing)?  How much would you pay for a night out in the town like that?

This is just one of a whole host of ideas on the menu for next year when the Town Hall reopens.

Let us know what you think.  Add your comments to this Blog or use the Contact Us section on the North Lanarkshire Council website here (the page is headed Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre - but your comments will still get to the right people!)

Back to the Feedback

We're staring to get a feel for what the future programme of events might be at the Town Hall.

Many people have told us that they want a bigger choice of entertainment at the Stirling Street venue - and we are already planning for this behind the scenes.
Of course, as well as re-opening after the refurbishment next year, 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the building first opening.  Two reasons to celebrate - and we are hoping to mark the centenary in style!
So what about you?  What do you want to see at the Town Hall?  Everyone can have a say in the future of the Town Hall - so don't hold back - get in touch today!

You can share your thoughts with us by commenting on this Blog or using the Contact Us section on the North Lanarkshire Council website here (the page is headed Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre - but your comments will still get to the right people!)

Influence us!

Work continues inside the Town Hall as we start to think about what will go on stage when the building reopens next year.

We want to hear from you now if you have ideas for what you'd like to see going on at the Sir John Wilson Town Hall from 2012 onwards.  Tell us your current favourite act.  Tell us about your favourite type of night out.  Even share a memory of a past event at the Town Hall.

Why not check out our Flickr page here for some very recent pictures of work in progress?  There are some very striking views of a stage-less Main Hall!

And, if you were a regular at the Town Hall before it closed last year, check out this picture - notice anything different?
